People all over the world are reading the book 'How to Research Trends'. How does it inspire them in their daily job? Read how Frans, an innovation manager at Vilans, has applied the trend framework.
WHO ARE YOU?
"I’m Frans van Zoest and I’m an innovation expert at Vilans. Vilans is the leading center of expertise in the field of long-term care in The Netherlands. We translate theory into practice and knowledge into action. This way we help care professionals improve their care for the chronically ill, vulnerable older people and people with disabilities."
WHY ARE YOU INTERESTED IN TRENDS?
"Within Vilans and in the domain of health care there is a growing need for insight in future trends and how to use these trends to make the right choices. We have chosen to focus on doing desk research and combine information from published trend reports. We analyse these reports and apply the insights to inspire future thinking about long term care."
DO YOU HAVE EXAMPLES OF HOW YOU APPLY TRENDS AT VILANS?
>> Scenario 2035: We have written a storyline of 85 old Anna and her daughter Dineke who struggles with her quality of life after Anna gets a stroke. The story brings together nine trends in long term care in a possible future.
>> Design Fiction: We also created a design fiction exhibition of the future, which we use to inspire discussions about technology in long term care in the future.
>> Trend Overview: Recently we have scanned a number of relevant trend reports to list ten trends in society and their future impact on the field of integrated care.
HOW DID THE BOOK 'How to Research Trends' HELP YOU IN YOUR TREND PROCESS?
"The practical book ‘How to Research Trends’ gave an important boost to our trend work at Vilans. The approach described in the book is very feasible and helped us to translate developments and their impacts into values and needs, which are at the hearth of trends.
The book gives a useful framework to understand the trend levels, such as the forces that drive trends and the trend manifestations. We have used this framework to draft our own trend overview. I would advice anyone to read ‘How to Research Trends’ and adopt the trend framework in the book that dissects a trend into driving forces, underlying values & needs and the concrete manifestations of change."
