This is Sanne! She will be working alongside me on all projects and blogging about how to research trends. Read on for a Q&A with Sanne (and why she has a fascination with feet).
Who are you?
I’m an enthusiastic, creative, philosophical 25 year old student living in the Netherlands. At the moment I’m studying Trend Research and Concept Development and I have a background in Interior and Product design. What I do in my spare time? Reading a book, visiting an exhibition, in a cafe with friends or in my bed watching a serie or film that suits my mood.
Why are you interested in trends?
Since I like to question and speculate about the future, it’s important to know what is going on in the world. Trends are a reflection of the values and needs in society. They give us more insight in what is going on in the world and where this might take us in a certain amount of years.
What are your sources of trend inspiration?
There are multiple sources from which I collect information that I use for my trend research. Online, in the news(papers), television programs, books, research papers and sometimes even during exhibitions. At the moment I’m reading To Be a Machine and Homo Deus (wouldn’t recommend reading two books at the same time), and watched every episode of Black Mirror (again).
Inspiration can be found in everything and as an aspiring trend researcher I think it's important to keep my mind open and my senses sharp.
Which trend theme are you interested in?
Technological developments and what this means for us humans and for our world as we know it. What will the effects be on our mental and physical health and will these effects create a gap in society? I like to speculate about this with others to get different perspectives and make different scenarios regarding this subject. Learn and dare to question!
What do you hope to learn during your internship?
I feel that I can grow as a trend researcher and have the opportunity to learn how it’s done outside the classroom. Furthermore I hope to develop my speaking skills during workshops, my writing skills when writing blog posts and lastly I hope to have a clearer view in what direction I want to go in my graduation year.
What's up with your 'feet feed' on Instagram?
Well, sometimes I just have to stand still at a certain location I enjoy and make a memory of the moment I’m in. Because it’s funny, brings a certain mood or is just simply beautiful. Funny thing: I actually don’t like feet. I think they are weird and funny looking things. Unluckily for me, the feet pictures I post get more likes than my old ones without feet did. So it seems people like my feet better then my face. Either way: I just do what feels good at the moment and who knows, maybe I’ll show a little more than my feet one day....
